Voxylio is designed to work on your device. This page describes exactly what the extension does with data — and what it never does.
What Voxylio processes
Voxylio reads the subtitles of the video you are watching — the player's track or the captions shown on screen — to translate them and speak them aloud. Your settings (languages, voices, speed, volume, glossary) live in your browser's extension storage, synced by Chrome on your own profile; your dubbing history and statistics stay in that local storage too, and are never transmitted. If you create an account, Voxylio stores your email address, plan and access dates, payment-provider identifiers, and aggregate AI usage counters. It does not store what you watch.
Local by default
Translation runs on your device with Chrome's built-in translation API whenever it is available. In that mode, no text ever leaves your computer. Speech is generated by your system's voices, also locally.
The online fallback
When Chrome's local translator is unavailable, Voxylio can send individual subtitle sentences to an online translation service to keep the dubbing going. These are sentences from the video's public subtitles — never your personal data, browsing history or account information. You can disable this entirely with "Strict local mode" in the popup; Voxylio will then wait for the local translator instead of going online. Pro features, if you enable them, send those same subtitle sentences to the Voxylio API, which has them translated or voiced by an AI provider — same rule: only the video's subtitle text, never your personal data or browsing history.
What Voxylio never does
No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no fingerprinting. Your account holds only your email address and your plan — Voxylio sells or shares no personal data, and keeps no record of what you watch on its servers: the dubbing history in the hub lives on your device only. The broad site permission is used solely to find the video player and its subtitles on the page you visit; it is never used to read anything else.
Your data, your control
The "Reset" button in the popup restores default settings and deletes everything the extension has stored. Removing the extension removes all of its data.
SDK license verification
When a platform embeds the Voxylio SDK, the SDK sends only its public license key, the platform's Origin/domain and the SDK version to Voxylio to verify that the license is valid. It never sends captions, audio, video, lesson content, learner data or account data. To limit abuse, Voxylio derives a daily rotating HMAC bucket from the request's network address; the raw IP address is not stored, and those buckets are deleted within at most two days.
