Voxylio is designed to work on your device. This page describes exactly what the extension does with data — and what it never does.
What Voxylio processes
Voxylio reads the subtitle track of the video you are watching in order to translate it and speak it aloud. Your settings (languages, voice, speed, volume) are stored in your browser's extension storage, synced by Chrome to your own profile. Nothing else is read, collected or stored. If you create an account, Voxylio additionally stores your email address and your plan — nothing more.
Local by default
Translation runs on your device with Chrome's built-in translation API whenever it is available. In that mode, no text ever leaves your computer. Speech is generated by your system's voices, also locally.
The online fallback
When Chrome's local translator is unavailable, Voxylio can send individual subtitle sentences to an online translation service to keep the dubbing going. These are sentences from the video's public subtitles — never your personal data, browsing history or account information. You can disable this entirely with "Strict local mode" in the popup; Voxylio will then wait for the local translator instead of going online.
What Voxylio never does
No analytics, no tracking, no ads, no fingerprinting. Your account holds your email address and your plan, nothing else — Voxylio does not sell or share any personal data and keeps no history of what you watch. The broad site access permission exists only so the extension can find the video player and its subtitle track on the page you are visiting; it is never used to read anything else.
Your data, your control
The "Reset" button in the popup restores default settings and deletes everything the extension has stored. Removing the extension removes all of its data.
